LOBOS AIR IT OUT IN 52-24 WIN OVER ROYSE CITY
LONGVIEW - Teams facing Longview in the playoffs this season might have a little trouble recognizing the Lobos.

"We're a little different than in the past," Longview head coach John King said on Friday after the Lobos closed out the regular season with a 52-24 District 10-6A win over the Royse City Bulldogs at Lobo Stadium.

"We throw it around some," King added. "It fits us this year. We're a little undersized in spots up front, but we can move and we have some skill guys."

Johnny Hamilton completed 15 of 22 passes Friday for 228 yards and five touchdowns, and the Lobo signal caller will enter postseason play having completed 30 of 53 passes for 601 yards, 10 touchdowns and no interceptions in his last two outings.

Jaden Hurndon hauled in five passes for 67 yards and three scores, and Sean Davis turned both of his catches into 27 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Longview also rushed for 225 yards, with Hamilton picking up 85 yards on 14 carries and Mason Washington adding 64 yards on 12 attempts. Kylon Cummins and Makaden Frazier scored rushing touchdowns.

The Lobos (6-4, 4-2) will open the playoffs next Friday against Rowlett (6-4, 6-2). Details on that game will be released later.

"It's a one-game season now," King said. Our goal now is to be 1-0 after next week."

Royse City finished with 315 total yards, but - for all but one play - the Lobo defense shut the Bulldogs down after halftime.

Jamion Richardson completed 14 of 24 passes for 269 yards and three touchdowns, but the Bulldogs were held to 86 total yards in the second half and 70 of those came on one play.

Bryson Arney caught seven passes for 159 yards and a TD.

The Lobos never trailed Friday, scoring on the game's first offensive play after Von'Darryn Adams recovered a Royse City fumble on the opening kickoff. That gave the Lobos the ball at the Bulldog 18, and on the first play Hamilton hit Sean Davis on a slant play for the score.

Longview later drove 80 yards in 15 plays and chewed up 7:34 off the game clock to extend the lead to 14-0. Hamilton hit Kylon Cummins on a 33-yard pass on fourth-and-2 to keep the drive alive, and four plays later Hamilton hooked up with Hurndon from nine yards out to give the Lobos a two touchdown lead at the 8:55 mark of the second quarter.

Royse City answered with an 8-yard TD pass from Richardson to Cole Crawford with 5:24 left in the half to complete a nine-play, 61-yard drive, but the Lobos scored with 1:53 left on an 8-yard pass from Hamilton to Davis.

A 50-yard TD pass from Richardson to Hudson Hays with 59.9 seconds left kept the Bulldogs in it at 21-14, but the Lobos used a 38-yard pass from Hamilton to Kaidon Graves to get the ball to the 23, and on the next play Hamilton again found Hurndon for the TD and a 28-14 Lobo cushion.

Royse City's Emilio Brito booted a 51-yard field goal as time expired in the half to make it 28-17 at the break, but the Lobos drove 75 yards in 11 plays and took 4:50 off the game clock to move in front 35-17 on a 1-yard run by Cummins.

Royse City answered on the next play when Richardson connected with Arney near the RC sideline and Arney raced 70 yards for the score to make it 35-24.

That was it for the Bulldogs, but the Lobos got a 2-yard TD run from Frazier with 3:11 left in the third, a 15-yard TD pass from Hamilton to Hurndon with 1:50 left in the third and an 18-yard field goal by Felipe Ayala late in the fourth to make the final 52-24.
